John Gund (Quart Applied lip Variant), La Crosse, Wisconsin

Inscription reads, “JOHN GUND BREWING CO LACROSSE WIS.” In 1858, Gund sold his brewery in his log cabin and partnered with Gottlieb Heileman to build the “City Brewery.” The brewery was large and successful, producing thirty thousand barrels per year with a staff of twenty-five people. In 1880, total payroll was an astounding fifteen thousand dollars a year.
