Milwaukee - Weimer

This is an interesting jug. It was made by Chas. Hermann for a local merchant, but was re-glazed over the stencil and re-fired, mostly obliterating the original stencil. With careful reading you can still make it out. The owner theorizes that Jacob did not pay for the order so the pieces were reworked so they could be sold as plain jugs. More than one is known, so it's not a one-off. The stencil says "JACOB WEIMER WHOLESALE DEALER IN WINES & LIQUORS 218 WINNEBAGO ST. MILWAUKEE, WIS."
