New Ulm - presentation mug

Scraffito decorated mug or stain signed "Ch. Dauffenbach & New Ulm Minn." over a well done flower decoration. It has a wonderful salt glaze and Albany slip inside and a loop handle decorated with cobalt. It is also bottom stamped in and oval "C DAUFFENBACH & GIESECKE NEW ULM, MINN". It is very unusual to see stoneware stamped on the bottom. You can see the from the bottom that it was placed on a circular item in the kiln, either another piece of stoneware or on kiln furniture. This is the best New Ulm stein I am aware of. Most have merchant names on them and were probably made to order. This one may have been made for/by Charles for personal use.
