Whitewater crock - 2 gallon

Decorated earthenware two gallon crock from one of the potters in Whitewater, Wisconsin. It is a brilliant yellow color with the characteristic special rim finish. The size designator is two slashes with an underscore with a squiggle below. It is possible that the decorator was illiterate or assumed that the typical customer could understand it better than a numeral. It is often misinterpreted to be a fractional size, like one-half. It is not signed. It sold in the 1996 Jeff Skou auction, lot 255.
